I Don't Just Rent Porn

Here is a rundown of the last five DVD’s I got from netflix.

The Girl Next Door – To be honest I didn’t expect a whole lot from this one. The preview looked stupid and it seemed like it would be a waste of time. Still, for some reason I rented it and I did not hate it. While there are some huge plot holes and the story is preposterous, I did laugh a number of times and as usual the under-rated Tim Olyphant gives a great performance. A kind of homage/rip-off of Risky Business for the current generation.

The Yes Men – Just a great documentary. About two guys who ran a mock WTO website and because of it get invited to all of these conferences from people who are under the false impression that they work for the WTO. They then go on to give these bizarre presentations where no one bats an eye. Even going so far in one conference to support slavery and the sad thing is that no one even questioned them on it. A great film that needs to be seen by anyone who doesn’t already know about the horrendous practices of the WTO.

Inside Deep Throat – Another very good documentary. This one was about the filming and subsequent fallout from the most recognizable and best selling porno of all time, Deep Throat. It is interesting to see how the climate has changed and yet how it hasn’t. If you have any interest in this subject matter then it is a good enough watch.

Born Into Brothel’s – Avery sad and disturbing look at the horrendous conditions that kids grow up with in Calcutta. You cannot watch this and not be moved. As you watch this movie threw these kids eyes you can’t help but wonder just what is wrong with this world when a child has no choice in life then to become a prostitute at age eleven. A documentary that more people should watch, just to realize how lucky we are to live in a country with choices.

Hardcore – A bad Russian film that netflix recommended to me. The “story” is about two Russian prostitutes who fall in love and kill their pimp and frame another sex worker for the crime. Then one of the girls becomes famous and the story just gets more idiotic from there. Don’t waste your time with this one, as it was not nearly as good as I thought it was going to be.

I agree with "Inside Deep Throat" good documentary. I do not believe Lovelace was forced to perform, however.

I almost added "Born Into Brothels" to my Netflix queue but felt the subject matter would depress me. After reading your comments, I'm glad I didn't see it.
